HCHCR
Cold-work tool steels which include D2, D3, D4, D5, and D7 steels are high-carbon, high-chromium steels. Apart from D3 steel all group D steels have 1% Mo and are air hardened. Type D3 steel is oil-quenched; though small sections can be gas quenched after austenitization using vacuum. As a result, tools made with type D3 steel tend to be brittle during hardening. Type D2 steel is the most commonly used steel among the group D steels. The D3 steels contain 1.5 to 2.35% of carbon and 12% of chromium.AISI D3 Cold Work Steel has high strength, good hardenability and wear resistance. D3 is suitable for applications such as complex blanking and forming tools for long runs and for hard and abrasive materials.

D2
D2 is a tool steel that air-hardens (cold works). HCHCR, a high carbon, high chromium tool steel, has incredibly high wear-resistance qualities. It is a highly deeply hardening steel and, with appropriate care, will almost be free from size change. When it is hardened, the high chromium content offers it a modest degree of corrosion resistance.

DIN 1.2379
Din 2379 Consolidates maximum wear resistance, great durability, exceptional front line maintenance and treating resistance 12 % ledeburitic chromium steel. It can be nitrided after special heat treatment. It can be utilized as threading rolls and dies, icy trimming, cutting and stamping tools for sheet thickness's up to 6 mm, accuracy cutting instruments for sheet thicknesses up to 12 mm.
It is extremely wear- and abrasion-resistant. It is machinable in the annealed condition and may be heat treated to a hardness of between 55 and 62 HRC. On proper hardening, DIN 2379 steel exhibits low deformation. Due to its high chromium content, hardened DIN 2379 steel has a modest ability to resist corrosion. DIN 2379 tool steel has good corrosion resistance when polished and hardens in air. Frequently used for tools that operate in harsh wear-and-tear environments.
